I had a wonderful dinner tonight. Even though I’m not in love with the history and violence and colonialism associated with Thanksgiving, it still feels convenient and wonderful to have a day set aside each year to celebrate and give thanks for what we have. I know it’s impossible to truly separate the day or fully move on from its origins, but still. Right now I’m focusing on the good.
Since moving out here, I haven’t been back east for Thanksgiving, and I actually really love that. This year was one of the nicest holidays I’ve ever spent — really with people that I love. I’m reminded of the phrase Armistead Maupin uses in Michael Tolliver Lives about the difference between our biological and our logical families. Clever and true. Something to be thankful for.
I’ve got this stuck in my head and it feels so appropriate:
(The video’s not important — just the song. With thanks to Cary for making me fall in love with it!)

I’ve been busy and haven’t been able to write much on the blog — though there are lots of things I’m thinking about — so I thought it’d be fun to take a minute and once again share the search terms that people use to find me:
If that mess doesn’t sum me up in a nutshell, I don’t know what possible could!
