Normally I’d write something more, but this flyer is great and totally speaks for itself.

This weekend, it’s finally here: HOMO A GO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really, this is going to be the best thing to happen to SF in a long, long time. If you’re not there, you’re not having fun. And I really don’t want to have to tell you I told you so. Seriously.
Today is your LAST DAY for ADVANCE TICKETS, so save some $ and buy them NOW! I recommend the weekend pass, but if you’re stingy, at least come to Saturday night, where I’ll be emceeing and performing. (And, I’m super excited to be busting out one of the Gossip’s new songs. Get ready.)
A reminder: Homo A Go Go is a four day festival of queer music, film, art, performance and activism. It only happens once every two years or so (three since the last one). It used to be in Olympia, but everyone moved away, so now it’s in San Francisco. We are blessed. It’s DIY, which means Do-It-Yourself, which means not a lot of outside funding or support, which means don’t be a cheapskate and buy a fucking ticket. Please. It’s also punk and dirty and high-energy and fun for all. Headliners include:
Glass Candy
Erase Errata
Mirah
Girl in a Coma
Local favorites who are performing include Hunx and his Punx, Jenna Riot, the Younger Lovers, Katastrophe, and the Casual Lust along with DJ sets by Honey Sound System, emcee’s Peaches Christ and Lil Miss Hot Mess and a fashion show curated by Chelsea Starr.
Here are some more folks I’m excited about: Carole & Mitzi (Beth Lisick and Tara Jepsen), Vicki Marlane, Suppositori Spelling, Kirk Read, Michelle Tea, Jupiter, Tender Forever (!), Tim’m West, Athens Boys Choir, Krylon Superstar, and Nomi Lamm. And probably more who I can’t remember, but that’s a lot to remember, ok?
While music is the focal point of the festival, (with 42 musical acts) the schedule also includes film screenings of over 60 films (including the amazing Forever’s Gonna Start Tonight, about legendary Vicki Marlane), a fashion show featuring the work of 12 independent designers, a 3-day craft fair featuring up to 90 DIY/independent businesses and community organizations, 15 multi-media/theatrical/spoken word performers, 27 visual artists and 10 workshops focusing on education and activism.
Up to date information on the artists, schedule and tickets can be found at http://www.homoagogo.com.
I mean it, I really really don’t want to have to tell you what you missed.

Last week I participated in a phenomenal event called 2-4-6-8! Smash the Church! Smash the State!, which was a benefit for SOUL (the School Of Unity and Liberation in Oakland) and held at the Galería de la Raza (which, incidentally, has a great show up now from the folks at Dignidad Rebelde — check it out!). It was also a release party for Tommi Avicolli Mecca’s new anthology about the early years of the gay liberation movement, with a similar title. I’ve since been reading the book, and it’s pretty phenomenal to hear personal accounts from the days when the movement aligned itself with other leftist political movements seeking collective liberation rather than assimilationist demands like gay marriage.
The other performers and readers were all phenomenal: Dani Montgomery, Tina Bartolome, Erica Benton, Merle Woo, Paola Bacchetta (who was part of a group in the day called Dyketactics!), Thisway/Thatway, Malaya Arevalo (who read a gorgeous piece about Lawrence King), James Tracy (who did a great piece from an hetero), Annie Danger (who reprised her amazing motivational speech on rioting), and of course, Tommi Avicolli Mecca. The audience was also really phenomenal — a great mix of elders and youth (including a bunch of kids in high school), politicized, and energetic.
I was excited to do a new piece that I’d been thinking about for a while — a cheesy, marriage-is-so-stupid-in-the-face-of-a-truly-radical/progressive-agenda thing to Judy’s “Get Happy.” Video is here — sadly, the space was small and I kept knocking things over, and I totally didn’t realize that my dress was popping out the bottom, which ruined the reveal (oops):
Thanks to Angelique and Mariana for their work in pulling this together!

The pool scene is by far my favorite part of Showgirls. It’s like dreams and fantasies and nightmares all coming true. And it really just defines the film for me. Which is why this post has that title.
I had so much fun dancing on Saturday night at Midnight Mass — I wish I’d gotten up the energy to do both nights, because now I just want to go-go-go. And I’m so excited that someone posted video, and that my bootie shaking looks good! (And yes, that is my bootie that’s the video still, okay?) Lap dances are harder than they seem!

Also, thanks to L. Ron Hubby for taking this photo (link will take you to her other pictures from the evening):
I loved everyone’s looks, especially Evan the Bee, Kegel’s pseudo-Dolly, Faux King’s little boy, Raya’s Michelle Myers, and Pristine’s dirty condom.
If you haven’t made it to Midnight Mass yet this season, you’ve only got a few more chances. Sadly, this is the last full summer season of Midnight Mass, so get going girls!
